angularity correctionCorrection to be made to an observed velocity when the direction of the current is not at right angles to the discharge section line.
anhyetism(Rare.) The condition of being without rain.
anisotropicNot isotropic.
anisotropyRefers to the nonisotropic part of the turbulence spectrum. See isotropic turbulence.
anniversary windsGeneral terms for local winds or larger-scale wind systems (such as the monsoon, etesians, etc.) that recur annually.
annual cycleThat component of variability that is a function of the day of the year but is independent of the year.
annual exceedance seriesIn hydrology, a series of local maxima in a data record in which the number of local maxima is equal to the number of years of record. See partial-duration series.
annual flood seriesA time series of the largest flood that occurs during every year of the record. See also partial-duration series.
annual floodThe highest flow at a point on a stream during any particular calendar year or water year. Flow may be expressed as maximum instantaneous stage or discharge, or the highest 24-h average. The annual flood need not exceed the established flood stage.
annual maximum seriesIn hydrology, a series of data consisting of the largest values for each year. See annual flood.
