  • geosynchronous satellite—A satellite in an equatorial or near-equatorial orbit that orbits with the same angular velocity as the earth, making one revolution in 24 hours.
    Note that a geosynchronous orbit is not necessarily also in a geostationary orbit. See geostationary satellite.
